The practice

Chartered technologists, not juniors.

Why it matters

What chartered actually means for your project.

MCIAT stands for Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists. It is the highest professional grade awarded by CIAT and requires a combination of accredited education, structured practical experience, and peer-assessed professional competence.

  • Regulated standardsChartered members are bound by CIAT's Code of Conduct and subject to disciplinary procedures -- giving you formal recourse if standards slip.
  • Mandatory CPDEvery chartered technologist must complete continuing professional development annually, staying current on Building Regulations, planning policy, and technical innovation.
  • PI insurance requiredCIAT requires chartered practices to hold professional indemnity insurance. Ours is £2m with Hiscox, renewed annually.
  • Technical specialismUnlike architects who may focus on design concepts, architectural technologists specialise in the technical performance of buildings -- construction detailing, compliance, and buildability.
